paintings
It is difficult to describe Josefina Guilisasti’s paintings in pictorial terms.
Verisimilitude, illusion and attachment to a model order and structure each of her canvases, and it is possible to identify, in the majority of her works, a link with the minor genres of painting - still life, landscape. The effect of reality and the represented subject matter, however, are instead artifices of technique. They are strategies that trap viewers in common situations and places that they believe they recognize and identify with painting, but that obscure and camouflage an anxiety and a movement toward other less specific artistic media.
